Like everyone else, Joey has been trying to finish the spring 2020 semester online. Of course, being in a world where everyone is technologically connected, Joey is able to communicate with professors, do work for his classes, and virtually meet up with people everyday. Surprisingly, he's discovered it's actually helped him become more social. Joey is a person who loves hanging with his friends, and now technology is allowing him to stay in touch with the folks who he misses the most.
“I have been able to stay connected with my friends by using FaceTime, Google Meet, and simple texts” he shares. “I feel very lucky to live in a time where technology allows people to stay connected”. In particular, Joey has been able to connect with his friends through an online game called Quiplash. Every Wednesday, the friends all video chat while playing the fun game. It has turned into one of their weekly highlights because it makes it feel like they are all back together again.
Recently, Joey had a major assignment due for one of his classes. This long paper was something that was taking up a lot of his time, and he was making sure that he did it well. During one of his breaks to stretch his legs and grab a snack, Joey left his computer unlocked, with his paper draft on the screen. He was gone for only a few minutes, and when he returned to his laptop and looked at the paper on the screen, he discovered, to his surprise, that there were two extra pages that were filled with random letters and numbers. Seeing his cat licking her paws at the end of the table and putting two and two together, he realized that his feline friend must have jumped onto his keyboard and laid down on the keyboard, leaving her imprint in the form of the two extra pages of gibberish.
With no harm done and Joey still being able to submit his paper on time, it's now a fun memory of the type of uber-closeness that many of us have experienced with our pets during the lockdown. Joey has learnt that a pet can be great company, and a much-needed companion when we're spending a lot of time on our own. But be careful with an over-helpful pet, or you might find yourself accused of feline plagiarism!
