On Sunday, March 8th, only five days before we left campus for the rest of the semester, my friends Shereen, Maureen Ashlynn and I all went on a hike at McConnells Mill State Park.
We hiked down steep steps, clambered over rocky pathways, walked around the large rocks in the creek and eventually spotted the mills, before we turned back around. We enjoyed our time by the river, sitting in the sun on a huge boulder in the creek.
We imagined how cold it would be if we were to jump in, since it was not truly spring yet. It was such a beautiful day out too, clear skies and sunny; the best day for a hike.
It was the nicest weather we had seen in a while and we could take advantage of it by getting off campus and spending some much-needed time in nature, exercising, and hanging out with friends. It made me appreciate the beauty of the great natural landscape around us and how accessible these trails are from where Allegheny College is located. After our hike, we drove to a small diner and had some delicious food before heading back to campus.
We vowed to do this again since it was getting nice out. Little did we know, not even a week later, we would be leaving for spring break and not coming back. Although I’m sad I didn’t get to go on any more spring hikes with my friends this semester, I know we always have the next academic year to look forward to. I’m excited to create more memories at Allegheny and share more great times with the people I now call my Gator forever friends.
