Being in a new place can be terrifying — especially when that new place is the college where you’ll be for the next four years.
I drove up to Allegheny College on move-in day with my heart in my throat and butterflies in my stomach, genuinely more anxious about fitting into the social scene than I was about any of my classes. Who was I going to eat with? Who would I walk to classes with? Would anyone like me?
These concerns turned out to be baseless considering the fact that in the middle of
October my friends and I all piled into two cars on a Saturday night and sped to Conneaut Lake for haunted houses and greasy fair food.
That night — despite the fact it was cold, wet, and I was about $30 more broke by the time we ran and laughed our way through all of the haunts — is one of my fondest college memories to date. It wasn’t some spectacular Perks of Being a Wallflower-esque montage, but I truly realized that I had a great group of friends that evening. I
can't begin to tell you how lucky I am to have found them, but I did, and they and everyone else I’ve become close to in my time at Allegheny have truly made my freshman year something special.
