GATOR MEMORIES: LIBERAL ARTS BLUES

Updated: Aug 6, 2020

This was published when I was having a creative block. Could you tell? The weird head next to the stick figure was a bust of Aristotle, one of the founding fathers of the modern understanding of liberal arts. I found the bust on Google. I think the allusion went over most people’s… heads. (BA-DUM-TSH) Sometimes I can’t believe what The Campus newspaper let me get away with.

In this strip I was trying to represent both the seniors who were stuck in the library for much of their day working on “CHOMPING THAT COMP!!!” and the art majors Also chomping their COMPs but in very different ways. I loved having my own studio space as an art major but it was hard not to think of it as your own personal corner of hell you constructed for yourself as due dates started rolling in. I wonder how chomping the COMP looks like for seniors who are stuck at home this year. Maybe there’s an Instagram #tag for it.

~~ Jonathan Yee (Class of '17, Arts Major and Computer Science Minor)

IT'S SENIOR YEAR FOR A LOT OF GATORS WHO ARE DEFENDING THEIR COMPS AND PREPARING TO GRADUATE. LET'S MAKE SURE NO SENIOR HAS TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE. YOUR GIFT IS PROOF THAT GATORS DON''T LET GATORS FALL. THANK YOU.
