The second week of college in any year is always overwhelmingly fun to navigate. It's when you start to shed your timidity and the campus, your small little world, starts to open up. I had a loose idea of these two (see above) being the main characters, one a natural science major and one a humanities major but I made them so generic I couldn’t stick with them for long.
Still continuing with the first two gators and introducing a mean looking third. I had planned for skinny gator and scary gator to have some sort of arc and eventually become... ~more than friends~???? but I never got around to it.
If only every roommate was so receptive to playing board games in a dorm lounge on a Thursday night. Then again, this does take place during the first few weeks of college when every first year student is terrified, forming roaming packs out of desperation and a need to connect, just to survive. There are only a few recurring characters in this limited strip and none of them had names because... I don't know, it made them more relatable? I wish I could’ve differentiated them a bit more.
This strip is weird because I imported an actual scrabble board and finagled it to match the perspective on the table. Wack.
“Japan is a verb bro” is perhaps the greatest snippet of writing I’ve ever made and I doubt I’ll ever surpass it. I’ve never been able to throw out “Japan” or its gerund, “Japanning”, in a scrabble game but this is why fiction exists: to let us do the impossible.
